Context

This global pharmaceutical leader operates a vast ecosystem comprising hundreds of product websites across multiple international markets. In this project, I was responsible for the end-to-end design of a centralized governance system and a unified digital architecture. My primary objective was to transform a fragmented landscape of independent sites into a cohesive, scalable engine that ensures brand consistency while streamlining the deployment of digital assets globally.

Problem Statement

The client struggled with a fragmented digital presence. Managing hundreds of independent product websites led to brand inconsistency, high maintenance costs, and slow time-to-market. They needed a unified system that allowed for global oversight while remaining flexible enough for local market needs.

Strategy & Process

Operating as the sole designer within a fast-paced Agile team, I was responsible for transforming complex user stories into development-ready solutions.

  • Agile Integration: Actively participated in all ceremonies, ensuring design was always two steps ahead of development.
  • Rapid Prototyping: Based on user stories, I built interactive prototypes to validate workflows quickly.
  • Iterative Design: Used continuous feedback loops with stakeholders and users to refine the governance logic and UI.

The Design System

To accelerate delivery and ensure long-term scalability, I established a new, robust Design System. This centralized library of components and guidelines allowed the development team to build and deploy new site features with unprecedented speed and consistency.

  • Handover I delivered a comprehensive, documentation package. Because I worked closely with the developers during the sprints, the final handover was seamless, consisting of a Design System library and high-fidelity specs that eliminated guesswork during the implementation

Results

The project was delivered smoothly and was hailed as a major success within the organization.

  • Governance Secured: Established a clear hierarchy for managing global versus local content, ensuring brand control across all markets.
  • Increased Velocity: The Design System reduced design-to-development time significantly.
  • Scalable Future: Created a foundation capable of supporting hundreds of live websites with minimal overhead.
